Six months after the storms, 25 people are still unable to return home

📍 Lisboa⚖️ Legal🏠 Property#severe-weather+2 more

Six months after the series of storms that hit the country between late January and mid-February, at least 25 people remain displaced across six municipalities in the Leiria and Lisbon districts. Data collected by the Lusa agency from local authorities shows the most serious situation is in Arruda dos Vinhos, where 15 people are still in temporary municipal or family housing. Residents in the hardest-hit areas are awaiting the results of a National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC) assessment to determine solutions for damaged homes. In Alcobaça, three families remain displaced, with some unable to access state aid because damages exceeded the 10,000-euro limit. Other displaced individuals remain in Óbidos, Cadaval, Mafra, and Alenquer. The storms Kristin, Leonardo, and Marta caused at least 19 deaths and over 5.3 billion euros in damages. Half a year later, five national roads remain closed, and many insurance claims and public aid requests are still pending.
