Bad weather: 26 roads remain closed and 7,500 customers are without fixed-line services
Almost four months after the low-pressure system Kristin, which triggered a devastating series of storms, 26 roads remain closed and 7,500 customers are still without fixed-line services. These figures were announced this Wednesday, May 20, by the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing during a hearing at the Assembly of the Republic. According to the minister, the repairs on the remaining closed roads are of 'great technical complexity'. Miguel Pinto Luz stated that projects are being drafted for 19 of these sites, five are in the contracting phase, and work has already begun on the EN248-2 in Sobral de Monte Agraço, with completion expected within a month. He added that one case is awaiting a court decision due to an injunction filed by a private condominium regarding a slope. Pinto Luz highlighted that 717 interventions have been completed, while 1,268 are ongoing. He noted that mobile communications have been restored, but cited Anacom data indicating that 7,500 customers still lack fixed-line services due to the difficulty of rebuilding infrastructure in hard-to-reach areas. Regarding the railway, 367 interventions have been finished and 140 are underway, with the Beira Baixa and Oeste lines presenting the most significant challenges.
