The Judiciary Police arrested a 43-year-old Portuguese man on Tuesday, June 16, suspected of aiding the escape of prisoners and illegal possession of a weapon, following the prison break from Vale de Judeus in September 2024. During the 'Sapatada' operation, seven house searches were conducted, and 25 individuals were named as formal suspects. Authorities seized two vehicles, two Kalashnikov automatic rifles, ammunition, electronic jamming equipment, military-grade radios, tactical gear, and approximately 32,500 euros in cash. The operation involved 70 investigators and aimed to consolidate evidence regarding the escape of five inmates, all of whom have since been recaptured.
