One of the vehicles involved, which was stopped on the hard shoulder, was a van belonging to workers who were going to carry out repair work on the road. It was precisely two of these workers who died after being struck by the vehicle that went off the road and crashed into the van. Due to the severity of the accident, traffic was completely cut off in the Sacavém-Algés direction, remaining restricted until circulation resumed after 07:10. Authorities are investigating the causes of the accident. 25 personnel were on site, including firefighters, INEM, PSP, and Infraestruturas de Portugal, supported by ten vehicles.
