He stated he was stopped by police three times while they were searching for Maddie, but his van, full of drugs, was not searched. Brückner, a convicted rapist and paedophile, denies involvement in the 2007 disappearance. German prosecutors identified him as the prime suspect in 2020, citing concrete evidence, including mobile phone records, though they have yet to secure a conviction. British authorities are currently seeking to bring him to the UK to face trial for the abduction and murder of Madeleine McCann.
