Two men, aged 19 and 26, were arrested in flagrante delicto this Thursday, October 1st, in Silves by the Faro Territorial Command of the National Republican Guard (GNR) for fraud. GNR officers discovered that the suspects were posing as CTT postal service employees to collect packages for supposed deliveries without making the required payments. According to a statement, the 26-year-old suspect was a former CTT employee, which allowed him to know the procedures for collecting and distributing packages. The suspects were intercepted near a CTT branch in possession of packages worth approximately 3,500 euros, with one suspect wearing a CTT vest. Searches of their homes in Albufeira led to the seizure of further packages, various items of clothing, electronics, a CTT vest, and small amounts of narcotics. The suspects appeared before the Silves Judicial Court and were ordered to report periodically to their local police station.
The older suspect was previously a CTT employee.
In Benafátima, Silves, 400 personnel are fighting the two fronts of the fire. Two firefighters were injured when their vehicle went off the road.
