Annual grape production in the Azores reached 1,048 tonnes in 2025, a record for the last 20 years, the Government of the Azores announced this Monday. Pico, a unique wine-growing landscape classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2004, is the leading island with a staggering 92% of the archipelago's total production.

The mayor stated that the parish of São Caetano was the most affected by the storm, though she noted that there was no need for rehousing.
Strong winds caused damage to 27 homes and destroyed a car dealership.
Municipalities advise that “walks along the coast should be avoided, as well as recreational activities in areas exposed to rough seas” and that nautical activities should not be practiced.
The local authority admits that it may also close other roads in the municipality after a reassessment.
The funds are also intended for the year-round maintenance of a team dedicated to rescuing visitors in that protected area, “ensuring a permanent and specialized response capacity.”
The Maritime Authority carried out operations on Friday afternoon near the Madalena pools. The alert was raised at 15:10 by a relative. The causes of the disappearance are unknown.
The Horta harbour master has already ordered the closure on Friday of the port of Madalena, on Pico Island, to all vessel traffic.
