A 3.8 magnitude earthquake was felt this Saturday, July 4, on the islands of Pico, Faial and São Jorge in the Azores' Central Group, according to the Azores Seismovolcanic Information and Surveillance Centre (CIVISA). The tremor occurred at 07:34 local time with an epicentre 10 kilometres north of Bandeiras, Pico. It reached a maximum intensity of IV/V on the Modified Mercalli scale in the municipalities of Madalena, São Roque do Pico and Horta. CIVISA had previously raised the volcanic alert level for the Faial-Pico channel to V1 in May due to increased seismic activity.
