Milk producers on Graciosa Island, in the Azores archipelago, will be able to join a new programme from Lactogal, owner of the Pronicol factory, to increase the value of their raw material. Instead of basing payment solely on volume, the company will pay for the concentration of useful solids, protein, and fat, with the milk being processed accordingly.
Officially recognised since 2015, the Graciosa dwarf donkey remains at risk of extinction. The association aims to increase the number of breeders and focus on raising awareness in schools.
