4.6 magnitude earthquake hits Azores, causing landslide
A 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Azores on Sunday, with its epicenter near Santo Antão on the island of São Jorge. The tremor, recorded by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera or IPMA), caused a landslide that briefly obstructed access to Fajã dos Cubres, though no injuries were reported.
Update: Vehicle transport between Trafaria and Belém resumed
The Transtejo Soflusa (Transtejo-Soflusa or TTSL) operator announced that vehicle transport on the river connection between Trafaria and Belém will resume this Monday. The service was suspended for over a month due to repairs on the ferry Lisbonense.
A red warning is the highest alert level issued by Portugal's weather agency, the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera or IPMA), used when conditions pose a very high risk to life and property. Under a red warning authorities may close roads, suspend transport and advise people to avoid coastal and flood‑prone areas, so follow civil protection instructions during the Friday–Saturday storm period.
