Former Portel mayor José Manuel Grilo has died
The former mayor of Portel, José Manuel Grilo, passed away on Friday night, July 3, at the age of 65. The municipality in the Évora district announced the news on Saturday, July 4, and has declared three days of municipal mourning. Family sources told the Lusa agency that Grilo suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest on June 24 and had been in intensive care at the Espírito Santo Hospital in Évora since then. An economist by profession, Grilo served the municipality for nearly three decades, including 12 years as mayor and four terms as deputy mayor. He was currently serving as a member of the Portel Municipal Assembly.
