A 27-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, July 8, in the municipality of Redondo, Évora district, strongly suspected of attempted murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, and two counts of domestic violence. The victims are his ex-partner and her current boyfriend, the Judiciary Police (PJ) reported on Thursday. The incident occurred on Sunday morning when the suspect, a foreign national, broke into his ex-partner's home armed with a stick and a knife, assaulting her current partner and wounding him twice. The ex-partner was also assaulted. Both victims were treated at Évora hospital and have since been discharged. After the attack, the suspect fled with their two-year-old son. The PJ launched an urgent investigation, which led to the child being recovered on Monday, July 6, at the home of a close relative in Montemor. The child is safe and has been returned to his mother. The suspect will now face a judicial interrogation to determine coercive measures as part of an inquiry led by the Évora Public Prosecutor's Office.
A 27-year-old foreign national has been arrested by the Judicial Police. Officers have recovered the child.
A 39-year-old man was arrested by the GNR in Redondo, Évora. He even set fire to a shed adjacent to the family home.
The man was in possession of two firearms which were seized.
