More than 4,000 litres of Stone Soup will be prepared in Almeirim for the 12th edition of the festival dedicated to one of the most famous dishes of Ribatejo gastronomy. The event begins this Wednesday, 26 August, and runs until Sunday (30) at Parque das Tílias, with organisers expecting over 20,000 visitors. Over the five days, more than 12,500 portions of Almeirim Stone Soup are expected to be served, a recipe which holds European certification as a Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG). The soup will be available at 11 stalls in an initiative involving 14 local associations. Local gastronomy will not be limited to the dish that gives the festival its name. Almeirim melon, caralhotas bread, traditional sausages and regional wines are also among the products available at the venue, which will also feature a fair with food and gastronomic prizes. The programme includes live cooking demonstrations, children's activities and over 70 exhibitors linked to crafts and local economic activities. Ferreira do Alentejo will be the guest municipality for this edition, with an appearance scheduled for Saturday, 29 August.
