IPMA warns of prolonged heatwave reaching 43 degrees

📍 Porto🌱 Environment🩺 Health#severe-weather

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera or IPMA) has issued warnings for a prolonged period of intense, dry heat across the country. Temperatures are expected to reach 43°C in regions such as the Tagus Valley and Alentejo, with yellow and orange warnings in place for several districts including Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, and Setúbal.

A red warning is the highest alert level issued by Portugal's weather agency, the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera or IPMA), used when conditions pose a very high risk to life and property. Under a red warning authorities may close roads, suspend transport and advise people to avoid coastal and flood‑prone areas, so follow civil protection instructions during the Friday–Saturday storm period.

Iniciativa Liberal groups PSD, Chega and PS into a 'majority of obstructionists' in Portugal

📍 Porto🏛️ Government🩺 Health#government-policy+1 more

The parliamentary sessions of the Iniciativa Liberal (IL) party in Porto began with criticism of the PSD, Chega, and PS, whom Mário Amorim Lopes described as a 'majority of obstructionists' hindering Portugal's development. The parliamentary leader argued that while the PS refuses to reform, Chega fears losing votes, and the PSD delays reforms until after elections, the IL remains the only party committed to a future-oriented vision. Amorim Lopes labelled these parties as 'nation-obstructors' who are either satisfied with the status quo or lack ambition. The sessions, which focus on State and Fiscal Reform, also included a visit to the Hospital São João de Deus to discuss the party's proposals for the National Health Service.
