Wildfires force A1 motorway closure and evacuations
Multiple wildfires across mainland Portugal have mobilized hundreds of personnel, with a major blaze in Aveiro forcing the closure of the A1 motorway in both directions between Albergaria and Mealhada. While fires are also active in Guarda, Bragança, Penafiel, and Almeirim, authorities report no injuries or evacuations at this time. The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (Autoridade Nacional de Emergência e Proteção Civil or ANEPC) continues to coordinate the response to these outbreaks.
