The Porto Court of Appeal confirmed this Thursday, June 11, the acquittal of Fernando Valente in the case regarding the disappearance of Mónica Silva, known as the Murtosa pregnant woman case. In a statement, the court revealed that the appeals filed by the Public Prosecutor's Office and the assistant were dismissed, maintaining the full acquittal of the defendant for all crimes he was accused of, including qualified homicide, abortion, desecration of a corpse, illegitimate access, and counterfeit currency. The court concluded that the evidence was insufficient to prove the defendant's guilt with the required certainty. Mónica Silva, 33, was seven months pregnant when she disappeared on October 3, 2023, in Murtosa. Her remains have never been found.
She went out for coffee and was never seen again. Fernando Valente was accused of homicide, but the court acquitted him. The Public Prosecutor's Office appealed the sentence. Today, the decision of the appellate judges will be known.
