Pinto Luz says that strategic "non-decisions" had astronomical costs for the country
Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Pinto Luz stated that indecision regarding the new Lisbon airport and high-speed rail projects has burdened the Portuguese people and economy. Speaking at the start of construction for the high-speed line between Porto and Oiã, he emphasized the need for political consensus to overcome decades of stalled projects. Paulo Carmona, head of Infraestruturas de Portugal, supported this view, noting the historical failure to move forward on critical infrastructure like the IP3 and rail connectivity. The new high-speed line, supported by 450 million euros in EU funding, aims to connect Porto and Lisbon in roughly one hour and fifteen minutes, while increasing capacity on the existing northern line.
