The EN2 (Estrada Nacional 2) is Portugal's longest national road, stretching 739 kilometers from Chaves in the north to Faro in the south. It is a historic route that crosses the country's interior, serving as both a vital regional transport artery and a popular tourist path known as the Portuguese Route 66.
A new deposit could extend the life of the Aljustrel mine by another 20 years. However, the 250 million investment does not include reactivating the railway branch. Ore is currently transported by truck, but Almina states it will switch to an electric fleet.

REN highlights that in the case of biomethane, these guarantees of origin are particularly relevant for 'ensuring the traceability and valuation of renewable gases', thus promoting the 'decarbonisation of sectors that are difficult to electrify'. Delays in the biomethane market leave the country with less energy sovereignty.
