A wildfire in an agricultural area of Aljustrel that forced the closure of the National Road 2 (Estrada Nacional 2 or EN2) is now 80% contained. More than 100 firefighters and civil protection personnel worked to bring the blaze under control, and the road has since reopened to traffic.

Authorities confirmed that the fire, which also required the temporary closure of the Municipal Road 527 (Estrada Municipal 527 or EM527), is now under control and all affected traffic routes have been reopened.
The EN2 (Estrada Nacional 2) is Portugal's longest national road, stretching 739 kilometers from Chaves in the north to Faro in the south. It is a historic route that crosses the country's interior, serving as both a vital regional transport artery and a popular tourist path known as the Portuguese Route 66.
Prime Minister Montenegro discussed the economic performance of Portugal during the unveiling of a major investment project in the Aljustrel mining sector.
The bypass to the EN263, funded by the RRP, has been opened to traffic in Aljustrel. It is the 18th project completed by IP under the programme, which has already disbursed €470 million to the company.
Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) has received approximately 470 million euros in European funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), representing 87% of the total allocation for the company under the programme. The company announced the completion of the EN263 bypass in Aljustrel, a project funded by the PRR and inaugurated by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro. IP stated it has met all milestones for its assigned infrastructure and sustainable mobility projects, with 18 works now completed under the PRR's Component 7.

A wildfire in the Aljustrel area has triggered a response from 110 emergency workers and resulted in the closure of the EN2 national road.
There are no homes or people at risk according to a source from the Baixo Alentejo Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command.

REN highlights that in the case of biomethane, these guarantees of origin are particularly relevant for 'ensuring the traceability and valuation of renewable gases', thus promoting the 'decarbonisation of sectors that are difficult to electrify'. Delays in the biomethane market leave the country with less energy sovereignty.
On March 20, REN – Rede Elétrica Nacional carried out the first issuance of Guarantees of Origin (GO) for biomethane produced in Portugal. 'This issuance marks a new milestone in the development of the national renewable energy market and in the consolidation of the European energy certification system,' states REN in a press release.
