The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Emergency department at the Portalegre hospital will be closed from midnight Monday until 8:00 am Wednesday. The Alto Alentejo Local Health Unit (Unidade Local de Saúde or ULS) stated the closure is due to a shortage of obstetricians, and advises patients to contact the national health line (Serviço Nacional de Saúde 24 or SNS 24) for referral during this period.
