The mayor of Oleiros said today that more than 70% of the territory is without mobile communications or experiencing instability, at a time when the number of people without electricity is “decreasing significantly”.
Forty per cent of the municipality rely on generators that serve fewer than a thousand residents.
In response to the situation across the Centro region, the municipality warns that this equipment is starting to become scarce.
The mayor said he is in constant contact with E-Redes and mobile communications operators, but emphasised that “the situation is very difficult, despite teams being on the ground”.
All ten parishes of Oleiros, in the Castelo Branco district, are without electricity supply, except for some areas in the municipal seat, the mayor said.
The decision follows the continued failure of the electricity supply throughout the municipality of Oleiros.
Oleiros City Council, in the Castelo Branco district, today made the student residence's facilities available to members of the public who need showers or to charge mobile phones.
The case dates back to 2017. The driver of a tracked vehicle died after the vehicle he was operating rolled over while combating a forest fire that had broken out near Cardal.
