Municipalities in Viseu

1658: During the Portuguese Restoration War, a Spanish army under the Marquis of Viana defeats Portuguese forces led by the Count of Castelo Melhor at the Battle of Vilanova, near the River Minho, going on to capture Monção and other Portuguese strongholds in the months that followed.
1901: The writer and poet José Régio, a central figure of Portuguese modernism and co-founder of the influential literary magazine Presença, is born in Vila do Conde.
