Twenty-four hours after the revelation that artificial intelligence models uncovered decade-old critical vulnerabilities in the heart of PHP, the digital landscape has become a race against time. With exploit codes circulating publicly, malicious actors have launched global automated scans seeking servers lacking emergency patches, according to international cybersecurity bulletins. Faced with the imminent threat of Remote Code Execution (RCE), international banks, large companies, and public administrations are resorting to a drastic solution: temporarily taking digital services offline while updates are applied. This follows emergency directives from bodies such as CERT-EU, the Portuguese National Cybersecurity Centre (CNCS), and the US-based CISA. The recommendation is strict: organizations unable to patch production environments immediately must remove affected systems from the Internet to prevent them from serving as entry points. While core banking transaction systems do not operate on PHP, its proliferation in peripheral platforms has triggered maximum alerts in risk departments. Major Japanese financial institutions like Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and Nomura suspended digital services for urgent maintenance, a trend mirrored across European ministries, courts, and health networks. Cybersecurity monitors, including Cloudflare and Amazon Threat Intelligence, confirm a sharp spike in automated attempts to identify exposed PHP server instances. Millions of sites running legacy versions of PHP remain unprotected, becoming prime targets for botnets.
