Infrastructure: Travel disruption news in Portugal

A strike by cabin crew members has led to the cancellation of 80% of easyJet flights operating within Portugal. The walkout, organized by the National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (Sindicato Nacional do Pessoal de Voo da Aviação Civil or SNPVAC), began on Friday and is scheduled to continue until Tuesday, affecting bases in Lisbon, Porto, and Faro.

Luxair has postponed flights to and from Lisbon and Porto originally scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, due to the nationwide general strike in Portugal. The airline confirmed that while these major hubs are affected, flights to Funchal and Faro are expected to proceed as planned. Passengers are advised to check their flight status as the industrial action impacts aviation and ground handling services across the country.

The German pilots' union, Vereinigung Cockpit, has announced a new strike at Lufthansa for Monday and Tuesday. This follows a separate walkout by cabin crew that caused hundreds of flight cancellations. The union stated that the strike action is a response to a lack of serious proposals or dialogue from the airline's administration.

The Oeste railway line (Linha do Oeste) is out of service around Torres Vedras, forcing passengers to rely on cars and limited buses and turning a normally two‑minute trip into a 30‑minute journey by road, RTP reports. The Barraqueiro group said it is ready to supply more buses but replacements are limited for now; commuters and rural residents should expect delays and check operator updates.
