Deco Proteste warns that homeowners may be overpaying IMI property tax

The consumer organization Deco Proteste has warned that some property owners may be paying more in IMI (Municipal Property Tax) than necessary because the taxable asset value of their properties does not account for changes in factors like building age or location coefficients. Because the Tax Authority does not update these elements automatically, the organization suggests that owners use their online simulator to check if a revaluation—which can be requested every three years—could lead to tax savings. However, they caution that a new assessment could also increase the property's taxable value and subsequent tax liability, recommending careful consideration before submitting a formal request.
