The GNR arrested over 50 drivers for drink-driving during a four-hour special road inspection operation in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area this Saturday morning, as part of the Moita festivities. In a statement, the GNR explained that during the operation, which took place between 2:00 am and 6:00 am, 1,050 drivers were inspected and breathalysed, with 116 found to be over the legal limit. Of those, more than 40% (51) had a blood alcohol level considered a criminal offence. In total, 55 drivers were arrested, 51 for the crime of driving under the influence of alcohol, with the remaining arrests related to other road traffic offences. Additionally, 113 infringement notices were issued, and various other violations regarding vehicle safety, insurance, and inspections were recorded.
