The PSP police prevented a mass collision after a car broke through a blockade, but had to protect the foreign man who was behind the wheel.

Public Security Police (PSP) officers intervened on Sunday, 15 March, to stop a 56-year-old foreign national from driving his vehicle through a religious procession in Nazaré. Despite clear signage and warnings, the driver attempted to force his way through hundreds of pilgrims, causing panic before police successfully intercepted the car and ensured the safety of the participants. No alcohol was detected in the driver's system, and he was identified by authorities following the incident.

The mayor of Nazaré says he is concerned, noting that 'fishing and related activities play a structuring role in the local economy and are essential to the livelihood of many families.'

The school centres in the municipality of Nazaré will be open on Monday and Tuesday to accommodate the children of priority workers, namely those in the health sector, firefighters and security forces, the town council said.

The measure aims to support families who provide essential services to the community, namely in healthcare, the fire service and the security forces.

The TV star went missing on 31 December and the body was found a week later.

In the statement, the council adds that “all municipal services and civil protection agents are on the ground, ensuring the response to the emergency and the safeguarding of people and property”
