Our 25th of April

Every year, we take to the streets to highlight a reality that contradicts the illusions instilled by the far-right in public opinion: that the majority of the population identifies with the 25th of April, that young people have not turned their backs on it, and that criticizing certain public policies does not mean rejecting the democratic form of government. This consensus transcends left and right and is not exclusive to the elderly; we saw many young people on the streets with bright red carnations in their hands. We must continue to explain the significance of this date and the value of living in a democracy, while countering the far-right's falsehoods—such as the myth that the 25th of April was a 'stab in the back' to a 'just' Colonial War—with clear, simple truths. We must remember the reality of the dictatorship, the censorship, the PIDE informers, and the political prisoners, and prioritize defending ourselves against false saviours. Long live the 25th of April!
