A corpse discovered at Lisbon's DIAP (Department of Investigation and Criminal Action) has prompted scrutiny not only of the investigation but of the role and rhetoric of journalists who present themselves as frontline combatants against crime. The incident raises questions about media ethics, the potential for sensationalism, the impact on public trust in criminal justice institutions, and whether self-styled ‘crime-fighter’ reporting helps or hinders serious investigative work and public safety. Analysts should examine how coverage frames the dead body and the institution, how it influences public perception, and what safeguards are needed to ensure responsible reporting and transparency in ongoing inquiries.

The Judiciary Police (PJ) has reportedly gathered evidence of abuse of power and misappropriation regarding the delivery of a trailer that ended up in the possession of a contractor linked to the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, prompting the Attorney General to order an immediate inquiry, reports Expresso. Preliminary findings by the PJ did not convince investigators that the transfer of the asset followed all regulations, according to the same newspaper. The trailer, described as a semi-trailer seized in a drug trafficking case, was stored on Maritime Authority land where the PJ keeps vessels. Inside, thousands of litres of acetone, allegedly intended for drug production, were found. In a statement on July 17, the PJ clarified that it only became aware of the movement on July 14 and immediately opened an inquiry to investigate the circumstances. According to Expresso, the minister has not yet been questioned, and Luís Neves is reportedly displeased with the PJ's statement, intending to claim that the trailer's delivery is documented.
