Agency Warns of Scam Text Messages Targeting Digital Mobile Key
The Agency for the Technological Reform of the State (Agência para a Reforma Tecnológica do Estado or ARTE) has warned citizens about fraudulent SMS messages impersonating the Digital Mobile Key (Chave Móvel Digital or CMD). The phishing campaign attempts to trick recipients into revealing personal data and security codes through suspicious links. ARTE emphasized that it never solicits personal information or banking credentials by text, email, or telephone.
The Chave Móvel Digital (Digital Mobile Key) is Portugal’s official digital authentication system. It lets you log in to public services such as the Portal das Finanças, Segurança Social Direta and SNS 24, and sign documents electronically, using your phone number, a PIN and a code sent by SMS or the Autenticação.gov app. Portuguese citizens and foreign residents can activate it online with a Citizen Card or residence permit, or in person at a Loja do Cidadão or Espaço Cidadão.
ARTE (Agência para a Reforma Tecnológica e Eficiência) is a government agency tasked with managing technological reform and efficiency. The agency is currently leading Portugal's bid to host one of the five artificial intelligence gigafactories planned by the European Commission.
