School principals argue that exams for students without classes should have less weight in final grades
As the teacher shortage continues to affect schools across Portugal, principals and parent associations are debating how to ensure fairness for students in exam years (9th, 11th, and 12th grades) who have missed significant portions of their curriculum. Filinto Lima, president of the ANDAEP, suggests adjusting the weighting of national exams to compensate for lost instruction time, while other groups, such as the Missão Escola Pública, argue that providing extra classes is a more equitable solution to address the learning gaps.
