Spanish bank Bankinter posted record profits and is expected to surpass them this year. In Portugal, lending to households jumped 11%, has used up one-third of the State guarantee for young people, but the bank says it may request more.
Bankinter has already used 30% of its €60 million allocation from the State guarantee scheme for mortgages for young people, launched a year ago, but it wants more and intends to ask the Government for an increase. “Our objective is to use 100% of the guarantee. Banco CTT has also requested extra support and will receive an additional €25.8 million in guarantees. Under the measure, the State acts as guarantor for between 10% and 15% of loans requested by young people up to 35 years old.
In September last year the government had already approved a strengthening of the State's personal guarantee.
The State guarantee allowing young people aged 18 to 35 to buy a home without having to provide a deposit peaked in October 2025. In November, 52.8% of the total amount allocated by the State for this support scheme had been used.
October was, therefore, the month with the highest absolute and relative values since the implementation of this programme, with significant data since the beginning of this year.
Since the beginning of the year, 551 million euros have been used under this scheme.
