The future cannot wait

There are issues that politics can postpone, but the future of Social Security is certainly not one of them. A recent report commissioned by the government proposes deep structural changes to the pension system, sparking a debate that goes beyond technicalities. While the government has ruled out structural reforms for this legislative term and the opposition has accused it of fear-mongering, the core issue remains: Portugal is an aging nation that must balance pension adequacy with financial sustainability.
