Anacom proposes compensation for internet provider switching delays
The National Communications Authority (Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações or Anacom) has proposed a new regulation allowing customers to claim up to €5,750 in compensation for service interruptions during the process of switching internet providers. Under the draft, which is open for public consultation until September 11, the new provider would be responsible for coordinating the transfer to minimize service gaps.
ANACOM is Portugal's national regulator for communications (Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações). It supervises telecoms, internet, radio and postal services, handles consumer complaints and can fine providers; after Storm Kristin it warned fixed-network problems in affected regions may persist until mid‑June. Those with ongoing phone or internet outages should first report them to their provider and can escalate unresolved complaints to ANACOM.
