The Ministry of Education announced the placement of 569 students from the municipalities of Almada, Sintra and Amadora who were without an assigned school, 65% of whom had submitted their enrolment applications after the deadline. In a statement released on Tuesday night, September 15, the ministry explains that these students join the 405 who were placed on Monday, September 14, in public schools located in the municipality of Lisbon, following a meeting with 39 headteachers, including those from artistic and vocational schools. The placement of students in Lisbon, Sintra, Almada and Amadora (in the districts of Lisbon and Setúbal) is only pending final validation, which the ministry notes may still involve residual adjustments, while guaranteeing that no student in compulsory education will be left without a placement. According to data from the Agency for the Management of the Educational System (AGSE), 59% of the total number of primary and secondary school students without a placement on Monday across the country had enrolled after the deadline. The ministry also notes that new enrolments continue to be received daily, with 597 applications registered since September 7 for all school years in the municipalities of Almada, Amadora, Cascais, Lisbon, Seixal and Sintra. The ministry states that these situations have hindered the timely placement of students. It also recalls that since the beginning of September, the AGSE has been holding regular working meetings with headteachers and municipal representatives in the areas with the highest number of flagged cases. Another such meeting is taking place this Wednesday with headteachers from Odivelas and Barreiro to find solutions for students still without a placement in those municipalities. The ministry emphasises that the AGSE, school headteachers and municipalities are working closely to identify solutions as quickly as possible for the remaining pending cases, noting that new enrolment requests are expected to continue, particularly in January and February. The statement does not indicate the total number of students who remain without a school.
