The laboratory area of the University of Beira Interior (UBI) Polo I, in Covilhã, was evacuated on Tuesday morning, March 17, following a gas leak from an old refrigerator, reports SIC Notícias. Two professors sustained minor injuries when opening the refrigerator due to the inhalation of gas released by reagents inside the appliance, but they did not require medical assistance. A small area near the Department of Textile Science and Technology and the main bar area were evacuated. The street in the Polo I zone was closed to traffic and pedestrians for about an hour, but has since been reopened.
