Portuguese families continue to hold too much money in accounts yielding less than inflation. However, more investors are turning to ETFs to save, following a particularly positive 2025. Deco Proteste expert Jorge Duarte notes that while the Portuguese investor remains generally conservative, the trend is shifting as younger generations seek better returns. The organization highlights the importance of long-term, diversified strategies and warns against excessive concentration in volatile sectors like Artificial Intelligence, while noting the risks of high exposure to US markets and currency fluctuations.

In January, families have significantly increased their investments in savings certificates, contributing an additional 13 million euros per day, leading to a total of 40.6 billion euros in investments for the month. This trend indicates a strong focus on saving as an economic strategy at the start of the year.
