Portugal's Directorate-General of Health (DGS) has confirmed five cases of measles in the Lisbon region since 6 October. The authority highlighted that the highly contagious airborne infection, while typically benign, poses risks of severe complications or death in certain cases.
The Directorate-General of Health has confirmed three imported, unrelated cases of measles detected in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region since 6 October, including one involving an infant under one year of age.
This involves three adults, one child, and a baby; three of the cases are imported, unrelated to one another, and correspond to people who recently travelled to a country with a high incidence of measles.
Data from the directorate-general also indicate that 21 cases of measles were confirmed in each of the years 2024 and 2025.
