Meanwhile, his predecessor, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has appointed two staff members to his office for former Presidents, which provides institutional support after a term ends. Key appointments include Lieutenant-General Paulo Maia Pereira as Head of the Military Household, alongside various military advisors, aides-de-camp, and administrative staff. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has retained former journalist Maria João Ruela as an advisor and Helena Maurício Rebelo as secretary for his own office.
