Negotiations on the revision of the Teaching Career Statute resumed this Wednesday, with qualifications for teaching, recruitment, and admission on the agenda.
The government's proposal for revising the Teaching Career Statute (ECD) includes access through a “centralised national competition”, a one-year trial period, and an exceptional regime for teachers without legal qualifications. The document clarifies the concept of a teacher and emphasizes the need for legally required scientific and pedagogical training, while allowing for temporary exceptions. It also outlines a structured legislative review process to ensure coherence with existing laws governing the teaching profession.
An official letter dated 7 January — the same day the Government met with unions to discuss the statute governing the teaching career — was sent to schools informing them that recording class registers is compulsory, describing them as indispensable for “validation of the teaching service provided and the corresponding remuneration”.
Unions and the ministry have so far only negotiated the first topic of the Teaching Career Statute (ECD), on the 'Teacher Profile, Rights, Duties and Guarantees', and the text may still be subject to amendment.
