During a televised debate, André Ventura attacked his rival, João Ferreira Seguro, and directed insults at a lone dissenting attendee who displayed a placard defending the 25 April revolution, as well as at journalists. The incident punctuated a session that had briefly shifted public attention away from Storm Kristin and highlighted growing tensions in the campaign, with Ventura returning to personal attacks on Seguro. The episode underscores mounting polarisation in the race, potential risks for media access and civil protest at events, and how external crises can be eclipsed by incendiary rhetoric.
Chega-backed presidential candidate André Ventura appealed to Portuguese emigrants in Switzerland to participate in the second round, arguing that, for the first time in democratic history, their votes “will be decisive.” He framed the contest as an opportunity to “change the system,” accusing PSD, CDS and IL of colluding with Seguro in a “cosy arrangement of interests,” and urged emigrants to cast a decisive vote in the run-off.
Social media posts suggest that Portugal has “begun” alleged “reparations” to its former colonies. The government denies this: “The information is false. There has been no agreement, commitment, or negotiation.”

The two parties of the “central bloc” do not want to declassify documents regarding the FP-25 de Abril or the far-right bombing network. Like children, we must be protected from ourselves.
The Socialist argues that the declassification of documents regarding violence after the 25th of April revolution cannot be done on an ad-hoc basis and that Chega intends to “bias the historical debate”.
A proposal from the Left Bloc (BE) aiming to declassify documents regarding terrorist organisations after the 25th of April revolution was the only one to proceed to the committee stage. A resolution from Chega focused solely on the FP-25.
The proposal from the Left Bloc will be debated again in the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees, where it may be approved or rejected. Proposals from Livre and Chega on the same subject have already been dismissed.
During a plenary session, the Socialist Party (PS) and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) rejected proposals to declassify state documents regarding the far-left terrorist organization FP-25 and various far-right bombing networks active after the 1974 revolution. While smaller parties like Chega, BE, and Livre argued for transparency to uncover historical truths, PS and PSD representatives warned against instrumentalizing history for political gain, citing legal complexities and the risk of reigniting cultural wars in a democratic society.
Livre co-spokesperson Rui Tavares accused André Ventura of repeating a phrase used by Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler—"we were stabbed in the back"—during the Chega leader's speech at the 25th of April anniversary session. Tavares argued that this reference to the Colonial War mirrors the Nazi “stab-in-the-back” myth. He also criticized the government's decision to place the 25th of April Interpretative Centre in Pontinha rather than Terreiro do Paço, and called for better education regarding the history of the dictatorship to prevent the spread of misinformation by opportunists.
