The construction of the Freedom Memorial is progressing in Oeiras to become a meeting point and a place for reflection on the fight against the dictatorship and the 25th of April. The space will feature a tile panel in honour of the political prisoners of Caxias Prison, created by the painter Graça Morais.
It is a National Monument and one of the oldest in the country. It was built next to the Paiva River by order of French monks, who were rewarded with land after helping the first king of Portugal in the Reconquista.
