According to José Manuel Santos, president of the Alentejo and Ribatejo Regional Tourism Entity, the festival serves as a showcase for the best trails in the region, with the goal of activating routes developed over the last 15 years. The event includes free but mandatory registration, and features diverse cultural and natural landscapes, alongside promotional visits for national and international tour operators.

The National Republican Guard (GNR) has conducted more than 400 protection and rescue interventions in mountainous regions since 2024, with the majority occurring in the Serra da Estrela, the force reported this Thursday. The GNR's Emergency Protection and Rescue Unit (UEPS) manages search and rescue operations in the Serra da Estrela, Gerês, and Madeira mountain ranges. Since 2024, UEPS personnel have performed 425 operations across these three areas, with Serra da Estrela recording the highest number of missions. In Serra da Estrela, the GNR conducted 138 operations in 2024, 115 in 2025, and 29 this year, totaling 282, mostly involving assistance to drivers and road accidents. In Gerês, 128 operations were carried out, with 60 in 2024, 53 in 2025, and 15 this year, primarily consisting of rescue, search, and first aid missions. In Madeira, 25 operations were completed, with 12 in 2024, eight in 2025, and five this year, mainly search missions. The GNR advises several self-protection measures to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of outdoor enthusiasts, such as avoiding solo treks, starting hikes with enough time to finish before nightfall, and wearing appropriate clothing and footwear. The force also recommends carrying a backpack equipped with a raincoat, extra clothing, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a fully charged mobile phone, a GPS or map of the region, a whistle, a flashlight, a first-aid kit, and sufficient food and water. The GNR begins a special nationwide road inspection operation this Monday.
