Sand replenishment leads to beach closures on the Costa da Caparica
Starting this Thursday, April 16, and continuing until June, the beaches of S. João da Caparica and Costa da Caparica in Almada will undergo sand replenishment works, requiring the closure of these areas to bathers. According to the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), the operation is estimated to cost nearly 9 million euros, funded by European climate action programmes and the Lisbon Port Authority. The project, which aims to add 1,000,000 cubic metres of sand sourced from the Tagus estuary, was previously suspended in November due to poor weather conditions but is now resuming due to more favourable sea states.
