More than 400 appointments for the issuance of the National Identity Card have been conducted by the Civil Police of the Federal District via a kiosk installed at the Lisbon consulate since the project launched in May. According to Vanessa Spagnolo, deputy director of the Identification Institute of the Federal District Civil Police, the number of daily appointment slots has increased over the last two months, and the consulate is expected to receive an additional kiosk soon. The project, a partnership between the Federal District Civil Police, the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was launched in Portugal due to the large number of Brazilian residents. The new card, in effect in Brazil since 2024, integrates a citizen's RG and CPF numbers, facilitating access to services on the gov.br portal. By 2032, the old paper RG will no longer be valid, and by 2028, all Brazilians receiving social benefits must have the new card. The kiosk, equipped with two cameras, allows for biometric data collection operated remotely by a civil police officer in Brasília. The first paper copy is free, while the card version costs 84 reais. Following Lisbon, the project has been implemented in Asunción, Paraguay, with plans to expand to Porto and Faro in Portugal.
