Thinking about the future of Coimbra requires balancing current social urgency with long-term sustainability. We reject urban sprawl, prioritizing the regeneration of the existing city to boost quality of life and competitiveness. Our housing strategy aims to provide 1,000 affordable units by the end of the term, focusing on the physical and economic renewal of the historic centre. We are identifying vacant properties and using tools like the 'Coimbra Viva' real estate fund and partial PDM suspension to accelerate development. The arrival of high-speed rail will further boost the city's appeal. To reduce car dependency, we are promoting a proximity model centered on soft mobility and the new Metrobus system. Furthermore, we are treating green spaces as vital infrastructure and managing climate risks, particularly regarding the Mondego river, through dredging, renaturalisation, and proactive civil protection planning to ensure the city's resilience against floods and heatwaves.
