Parliament debates and votes this Friday on the bills presented by the parties.

CDS-PP and Chega have introduced bills to restrict the display of flags on public buildings, proposing that only national, European Union, and official institutional flags be permitted.

The Portuguese political parties CDS-PP and Chega are proposing legislation to prohibit the display of “ideological” flags, flags of other countries, and flags representing associations, clubs, or movements in public buildings. They aim to limit official flag displays to the national flag, the European Union flag, and institutional or heraldic flags relevant to each entity. The legislation seeks to prevent divisiveness and promote national unity, with penalties for non-compliance. The initiative reflects concerns over recent controversies related to flag displays in public spaces, emphasizing that flags should symbolize unity rather than division.

CDS-PP argued during the parliamentary plenary session that it is not possible to combat 'bloodthirsty dictatorships and oppressive regimes' with 'diplomatic proclamations', directing the criticism at the left.

The position announced by CDS/PP — not to support any candidate in the presidential run-off — showed that the party remains politically transparent.

'There is no more socialism than this,' said the president of CDS-PP, referring to Chega's positions
CDS‑PP leader Nuno Melo reiterated that his party will not support any presidential candidates, rejecting António José Seguro's socialism and André Ventura's populism. Melo likened Ventura to Donald Trump and controversially described Chega's positions as comparable to socialism, urging voters to vote according to their conscience.
