The fire started in an apartment on the building's second floor. The fatality is a 45-year-old man.

A fire in an eight-storey building in the municipality of Alenquer, Portugal, has resulted in one fatality; emergency services attended the scene.

A source from the West Sub-regional Command of Civil Protection said that at 09:45 work was still ongoing at the scene, adding that the fire caused the death of a 45-year-old man.

The number of displaced residents will rise from eight to 11 as a result of the complete evacuation of the two buildings.

No injuries reported. Causes of the collapse are still unknown.
