Government Launches Working Group to Codify Municipal Regulations

The government established an official working group to draft a unified Local Government Code (Código do Poder Local) that will consolidate scattered municipal regulations into a single legal framework. Overseen by the Ministry of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, the initiative aims to simplify legal interpretation, reduce administrative bureaucracy, and clarify local administrative powers. The finished code will apply across mainland Portugal's municipal councils (câmaras municipais) and parish councils (juntas de freguesia).
