In March, 1,500 combustion-engine vehicles stopped operating in Lisbon and Porto because platforms like Bolt and Uber failed to adjust fares to rising fuel costs, according to the Portuguese Association of Unmarked Car Transporters (APTAD). The association reports that the trend is accelerating, particularly among the 57% of the fleet running on combustion engines, and criticises the platforms for their inaction and failure to respond to open letters regarding support measures. APTAD argues that the current legal framework is flawed, allowing platforms to set prices unilaterally without accounting for real operating costs, and has proposed legislative changes to introduce minimum fares and occupancy rates to protect drivers' incomes.
