António José Seguro begins his first open presidency this Monday, choosing the Central region to fulfil his promise of visiting the territories most affected by the storm. Sertã is the first stop. He states, 'I have come to see what went well and what went wrong, the support that is arriving and the support that is delayed. And above all, to leave a word of hope, that this tragedy is not stronger than our conviction, our energy, and our belief in this country and these territories.' He added, 'I want this week to give a voice to the people who have lost their voice. That is also one of the President's functions. The President of the Republic has a responsibility to cooperate with all sovereign bodies to find solutions, because this is not a situation where only some have responsibilities. It is a responsibility of the State as a whole.' He also made an appeal to the Portuguese people.
