Sintra City Council announced on Wednesday, April 1st, that it will not authorise the slow-march protest by tuk-tuk drivers scheduled for Thursday in its current form, citing concerns over severe and ongoing public order disruption. The protest, organised by the National Association of Tourist Animation Drivers (ANCAT), aims to challenge new parking regulations for these vehicles that came into effect on Wednesday. While the Council has rejected the current plan, it has expressed willingness to negotiate alternative routes and schedules to balance the right to protest with public mobility and local economic activity. ANCAT has criticised the Council's decision, claiming it failed to meet legal notification deadlines and arguing that some level of disruption is inherent to any demonstration.
